Our design site is located in Shijia Hutong of Dongcheng District in Beijing old city, which has profound historic and cultural values, but suffers from worn architecture, insufficient greening, and conflicts between user groups at the meantime. The living quality is generally poor at present.
Based on the trends of old city renewal and demographic shift, our design utilises historic and cultural sites to create a cultural visiting route, transforms Hutong environment for better welfare of residents, attracts youth who bring vitality, and finally achieves integration with a shared future.
