广西北部湾海域的海草床,曾是儒艮的家园与疍家渔民“以海为田”智慧的见证。海草与儒艮形成和谐共生:海草提供食物与氧气,儒艮啃食则疏松底质、促进海草生长,共同维系贝类、鱼类及海鸟的生存网络。然而,海岸开发、污染及渔业活动导致海草床大幅萎缩,儒艮踪迹难觅,生态失衡警报长鸣。 当前斑块化残留的海草床覆盖率不足15%,生物多样性锐减。修复项目采取人工干预与自然恢复双轨并进:运用无人机播种、种子“胶囊化”技术,构建阶梯式人工草床;依据生态梯度打造三重立体屏障——陆缘红树林过滤污染物、中潮滩“海草-贝类”固底、低潮线外珊瑚礁消浪,就地营建儒艮栖息与觅食空间。海草监测站实时追踪生态健康,其蓝碳数据更链入国际碳汇体系,推动生态价值转化。 尤为注重以景观引导人海共生: 在人类活动区与生态核心区间创新设置“柔性边界”。近岸3公里生态保育区,借浮动苗圃与人工鱼礁引导渔业转型;滨海缓冲带则发展海草养殖、生态浮潜等低碳产业,并巧用红树林气生根构筑观景栈道——游客穿行竹木廊桥间,得以直观感受儒艮庇护所的生态机理。波浪防浪网与站鸟桩保留海洋养分,滋养海滩弹涂鱼、浅海幼鱼、礁区鱼群,生命网络于此复苏。

The seagrass beds of the Beibu Gulf in Guangxi once served as both home to dugongs and a testament to the wisdom of boat-dwelling fishermen whose lives were intricately woven with the sea. Here, seagrass and dugongs existed in harmonious symbiosis: the seagrass provided sustenance and oxygen, while the dugongs' grazing aerated the seabed, stimulating seagrass growth. Together they sustained a vital network for shellfish, fish, and seabirds. Yet coastal development, pollution, and fishing activities have caused severe degradation of these meadows. Dugong sightings became rare, and alarm bells rang for the collapsing ecosystem.
Today, fragmented remnants of seagrass beds cover less than 15% of their historical range, with biodiversity plummeting. Restoration projects now employ dual strategies—artificial intervention and natural regeneration. Drones disperse encapsulated seeds while terraced artificial seagrass beds are constructed. Following ecological gradients, a triple-layered barrier system takes shape: mangrove forests along shorelines filter pollutants; mid-tidal "seagrass-shellfish" zones stabilize sediments; offshore coral reefs beyond the low-tide line dissipate wave energy. This recreates critical dugong habitats and foraging grounds. Seagrass monitoring stations track ecosystem health in real-time, with their blue carbon data integrated into international carbon trading systems—transforming ecological value into tangible benefits.
Landscape design intentionally guides human-ocean coexistence through innovative "flexible boundaries" between activity zones and core habitats. Within the 3-km coastal conservation area, floating nurseries and artificial reefs steer fisheries toward sustainable practices. Buffer zones foster low-carbon industries like seagrass aquaculture and eco-snorkeling. Mangrove pneumatophores are ingeniously incorporated into viewing boardwalks—visitors traversing bamboo-wood walkways witness firsthand the ecological mechanisms protecting dugong sanctuaries. Wave-dissipating nets and bird-perching poles retain marine nutrients, nourishing beach mudskippers, shallow-water juvenile fish, and reef communities as life's intricate web regenerates.This revitalized seascape stands as both a contemporary response to ancient maritime heritage and a living laboratory for dynamic equilibrium. Each resurgent blade of seagrass weaves a green path for the dugongs' return home.
