Wuhan is known as the "city of a thousand lakes(千湖之城)" and the "thoroughfare of nine provinces(九省通衢)", but it is also known as a "furnace" city. The decrease in the size of the lakes each year is a major cause of the high temperatures in Wuhan.The design aims to uncover Wuhan's current urban crisis and to imagine the new urban and social ways that future technology will bring. It will not only be a vertical city for urban habitation and experience, but also a vertical factory for energy crisis, a vertical lake for natural changes. It will be a Probing Tower, which establishes a new urban order across the crust layer, water layer, and air layer.

从1960至2020年，这个中国最大的城中湖已缩小了200k㎡。并且由于填湖造陆、城市化和全球气候变化等多种原因，东湖的面积将在未来20年中继续缩小30%。湖泊对都市的多种功能也随着面积的消减不断削弱。              
From 1960 to 2020, the largest natural lake in Chinese cities has shrunk by 200 sqkm. Part one: Drilling system, Multiple saline pipelines will follow the building foundation down to the depth of 3,000 meters. Here, methane and hot saline will be forced to the pumping well by the crust pressure. Part two: Raising system, The steam from the power generator will rise in the tower core, As it cools, it streams down from the tower's surface, creating a vertical lake. The spiral watercourse on the surface will cool the tower and absorb urban thermal radiation. This system can realize the positive energy cycle, zero water cycle and negative carbon cycle. Which means the energy will be continuously produced, but the carbon will be reduced, However, the water is taken from the lake and fully returned to the lake.
