On light, shadows and reflections...
We found it valuable to make a structure that we experienced without the covering that surround us visible through the shell that surrounds it, to bring it to the forefront. In a sense, the shell has reached a point that surrounds both structure and people. The shell was knitted with contrasts. Despite its holistic appearance, it was made of thousands of small parts. Despite his heavy appearance, he remained in the air, hanging from above without stepping on the ground. Despite its opaque appearance, it was actually made of clear glass. It was our first goal to reach the unrepeatable and unimaginable atmosphere created by the light and reflections that seeped out of the shell. In the area where the structure was located, primitive stone walls made for land arrangement gave us this inspiration. These stone walls became the shell of the structure with a new interpretation. The light effect and light shadow games created by filtering light from the shell into the interior, the position, size and randomness of the gaps in the building shell, will make the experience of the structure unique.
Bornova semi-Olympic Pool project is located in Asik Veysel Recreation Area. Glass has been one of the main building materials of architecture for centuries, although its shape, color, and details change, it always appears in the same form and for the same purpose. We found it inspiring to use a waste material generated during the production of glass in its non-recycled state, to explore different uses for different materials. The glass rocks, which we use unusually, are located in a suspended shell instead of transferring their loads directly to the ground. This shell also offers solar control on the south and west facades. This shell also offers solar control on the southern and western fronts.
